What is MSDS ?

A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) is a document that describes the chemical and physical properties of a material and provides advice on safe handling and use of the material. The term Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is also commonly used overseas to describe such a document.

Within the workplace, the MSDS is a recognised information source, which underpins the overall risk management program to control exposure to hazardous and dangerous materials.

Under Commonwealth, State and Territory legislation, employers must obtain an MSDS for all hazardous substances and/or Dangerous Goods supplied to or used in the workplace, and ensure they are available to all employees.
