The most common distribution channel is from the manufacturer to Coles' Distribution Centres and then to the individual stores.

In every store each night a Max unit is used to scan a special bar code on the product's shelf ticket. The information is transmitted from the store computer to the Coles distribution centre and an order is generated. The Max unit is also used to control product levels and excess stock in the storeroom.

At the Distribution Centre the orders for each store are assembled and despatched accordingly. The centre's computer calculates the physical size of each load and this information is used to plan the number of trucks and drop off points.
