Coles and the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Assistance Trust would like to thank customers for their generous support of Aussie diggers and their families during this ANZAC Day centenary year campaign.
The walls of Coles stores across the nation were adorned with colourful donation cards as customers helped raise $762,781.13 in support of the campaign.
The ADF Assistance Trust partnered with Coles to highlight the growing assistance needed for Aussie diggers returning home from operational service traumatically injured or suffering debilitating mental health issues.
The funds raised will be vital in helping support hundreds of returned servicemen and women and their families, all of whom make great sacrifices during deployment. The most pressing need for financial support is in the areas of education, housing and utility bills, transport, food and special health care needs.
ADF Assistance Trust Ambassador and Victoria Cross recipient, Corporal Daniel Keighran was thankful for the support of the campaign in the lead up to ANZAC Day.
“Our service men and women sacrifice a lot when they are deployed overseas, and often come home with traumatic injuries that make it hard for them to continue working. Due to the generous support of Coles and its customers, the ADF Assistance Trust can make a difference and help take the pressure off families,” he said.
John Durkan, Coles Managing Director, said “Our stores worked hard to raise vital funds this ANZAC Day for the Australian Defence Force Assistance Trust. We want to thank all of our customers for digging deep and for their generous support of the campaign.”
As part of the campaign, 12 cents from the sale of every pack of Coles Bakery Anzac Biscuits, Double Choc and Choc Chip Cookies was donated to the ADF Assistance Trust. Coles will continue to donate one cent from the sale of every bottle of Coles Brand Spring Water until October 2015.
The ADF Assistance Trust is a new charity, set up in 2012, to provide financial, emotional and practical support to diggers and their families in times of need.
Since commencing this partnership in April 2014, Coles has raised a total of $2.96 million for the ADF Assistance Trust.
