Fresh fruit and vegetable availability update
The latest update on our fresh produce supply from growers around Australia.
24/06/22
The onset of winter has brought some freezing temperatures around Australia, particularly across the southern regions. While we have an abundance of stock on certain fresh fruit and vegetables that offer great value, some items are in restricted supply.
In addition to the devastating floods earlier this year, the ongoing heavy rainfall, recent cold weather and lower levels of sunlight have meant many of our Australian growers are experiencing impacts to the supply of berries, lettuce, beans, tomatoes, broccoli and herbs.
We are working closely with our growers to help them recover as quickly as possible and we are pleased to let you know that you can expect to see improved stocks of many fresh produce lines in coming weeks.
Our growers expect to be able to deliver increased volumes of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, fresh herbs and tomatoes starting in a few weeks’ time.
Some vegetables including beans, corn, broccoli, broccolini, Asian vegetables and lettuce will take a bit longer to recover after key growing regions were hit with heavy rains, but supplies are expected to begin improving towards the end of July before returning to full supply in August.
Meanwhile Sweet Potatoes have had a bumper crop! Right now these are great value and in good supply along with other winter vegetables such as Carrots, Brushed and Washed Potatoes, Brown Onions and Kent Pumpkin which are all perfect for winter cooking. Also, our Queensland growers have seen good conditions for avocados and bananas, both of which are in good supply. Similarly Navel oranges, apples and pears are also in good supply, and mandarins are out in abundance, so keep an eye out for great specials on your next shop.
Our team will continue to work together with our network of local growers all around Australia to respond to customer demand and improve supply, despite the challenging weather. We’re thankful for your patience – please bear with us during this time.
