Caramelised apple and ham tart
This caramelised apple and ham tart is the ultimate sweet and savoury dish. It’s loaded with tender pieces of Aussie-grown Kanzi apple.
Note: + 15 mins cooling time
- 220g frozen shortcrust pastry case
- 1 tbs olive oil
- 2 KANZI® apples
- 1 small red onion, finely chopped
- 250g piece ham, cut into 1cm pieces
- 2 tbs finely chopped thyme
- 3 eggs
- 1/4 cup (60ml) thickened cream or pouring (pure) cream
- Thyme sprigs, to garnish
- Baby spinach leaves, to serve
Preheat oven to 180°C. Place the pastry case on a baking tray (don’t remove from the foil case). Bake for 10 mins.
Meanwhile, heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Cut 11/2 KANZI® apples into 1cm pieces and thinly slice remaining apple. Cook chopped apple and onion, stirring, for 10 mins. Add ham and cook for 10 mins or until golden. Stir in chopped thyme. Season. Spoon into pastry case.
Whisk eggs and cream in a jug. Pour over the ham mixture in the pastry case. Bake for 35 mins or until the filling is set and pastry is golden.
Set the tart aside for 15 mins to cool slightly. Transfer to a serving plate. Serve with sliced apple, thyme sprigs and spinach.
