Cinnamon chilli hot chocolate
Take your regular hot chocolate recipe up a notch with this cinnamon chilli recipe. With a spicy kick, this creamy beverage is a must try.
Note: + 5 mins standing time
- 4 cups (1L) milk
- 100g dark chocolate, coarsely chopped
- 100g milk chocolate, coarsely chopped
- 1 long red chilli, halved lengthways
- 1 cinnamon stick or quill
- 1 whole star anise
- 2 mint sprigs
- Whipped cream, to serve
- Cocoa powder, to dust
- Halved red birdseye chillies, to serve
Place the milk, combined chocolate, long red chilli, cinnamon, star anise and mint in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 mins or until the chocolate melts and mixture is heated through. Set aside for 5 mins to develop the flavours.
Strain mixture through a sieve into a heatproof jug, discarding the solids. Pour evenly among heatproof serving glasses. Top with whipped cream, cocoa powder and birdseye chilli.
