Easy mulled wine

Warm everyone up with this twist on classic mulled wine. Great for winter entertaining, it’s the perfect beverage for celebrating Christmas in July.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups (1.5L) red wine
  • 4 cups (1L) pomegranate juice
  • 2 oranges, juiced
  • 2/3 cup (150g) caster sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks or quills
  • 4 whole star anise
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 2 tbs pomegranate seeds
  • 1 orange, extra, thinly sliced
  • 1 small pear, thinly sliced

Method

STEP 1

Combine the wine, pomegranate juice and orange juice in a large saucepan. Stir in the sugar, cinnamon, star anise, cloves and pomegranate seeds. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, for 30 mins or until sugar dissolves and mixture is aromatic. 

STEP 2

Add the orange slices and pear slices just before serving
