Rainbow fruit platter recipe

When you need a simple dessert or sweet treat to feed a crowd, an easy fruit salad recipe is an excellent go-to. This gorgeously colourful rainbow fruit platter recipe, bursting with the vibrant, fresh flavours of seasonal fruits, is almost effortless to put together - all you have to do is select your rainbow of fruits, then slice or prepare and arrange to create an eye-catching kaleidoscopic platter. An easy fruit platter is perfect for entertaining because your guests can help themselves and you can vary it depending on whatever fruits you love, or whatever is available and at its best.

There’s no rule as to what are the best fruits for fruit salad. You can use any produce that is in season - just ensure it’s perfectly ripe, juicy and with a sweet fragrance.

How to make fruit salad

Making fruit salad is so easy, just requiring a little bit of prep work. Always use fresh fruits, rather than frozen (frozen fruits will quickly turn to mush when they defrost). Once you’ve selected your fruits, it’s also important to wash them thoroughly. Run them under cold running water to remove any unwanted residues or use a mixture of vinegar and water, however plain water is likely just as effective. You should wash the fruits just before you prepare them, as if you wash them and then store in the fridge, it can cause the produce to spoil sooner. After washing, pat dry with paper towel.

Then, this is the fun bit! You can opt to simply slice the fruits or add interest and variety by using a melon baller or intricately shaped cutters. Scoop out balls from honeydew melon, watermelon and dragon fruit to create perfect spheres that look great on display.

More fruit platter ideas and how to arrange a fruit platter

There are countless fruit platter designs you can experiment with. Arranging fruits in rows or circles based on colour is always striking and effective, or you could even create a design such as a rainbow. Or you could thread different fruits onto kebab sticks to make mini fruit kebabs so your guests can grab and go. Choose a large flat platter and ensure you have enough fruit to completely cover it - the more bountiful the fruit looks, the more impressive! For extra prettiness, you could add sprigs of mint or perhaps a yoghurt dip.
