Ingredients

  • 20g butter
  • 2 red onions, cut into wedges
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 2 tbs caster sugar
  • 2 tbs red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup (130g) whole-egg mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 4 Coles Thick Beef Burgers
  • 4 tasty cheese slices
  • 4 Coles Bakery Crusty Round Rolls, split
  • 1 green oakleaf lettuce, leaves separated
  • 225g can sliced beetroot, drained
  • 1 vine-ripened tomato, thickly sliced
  • Barbecue sauce, to serve

Method

  1. Step 1

    Melt the butter in a frying pan over low heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring, for 15 mins or until it begins to caramelise. Add the garlic and cook, stirring, for 1 min or until aromatic. Add the sugar and vinegar and cook for 5 mins or until the sauce thickens.
  2. Step 2

    Meanwhile, place the mayonnaise and paprika in a bowl and stir to combine.
  3. Step 3

    Heat a barbecue flat-plate over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3 mins each side or until cooked. Place 1 cheese slice on top of each patty and cook for 1 min or until just melted.
  4. Step 4

    Top bread roll bases with lettuce, beetroot, tomato and mayonnaise. Top with patties, onion, sauce and bread rolls.
