Baileys mudslide: A boozy adults-only milkshake

Reminiscent of an old-school chocolate milkshake, this alcoholic-spiked Baileys cocktail is a favourite amongst chocolate lovers. Also known as a mudslide, it features a rich and creamy combination of coffee-based liqueur, Irish cream whiskey, vodka and an indulgent splash of pure cream served in a glass dressed in chocolate dessert sauce.

It’s a fun chocolatey dessert cocktail that’s perfect to serve for special occasions like a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner, Galentine’s Day with girlfriends, Easter entertaining celebrations or even for Friday night drinks at home.

What you need to make mudslide cocktails

The primary ingredients in a mudslide drink are Tia Maria and Baileys. Tia Maria is a coffee-flavoured liqueur made from a mixture of coffee beans and rum, while Baileys is an Irish cream liqueur made from cream, cocoa and a splash of Irish whiskey. The richness from the coffee-spiked Tia Maria paired with the smooth, creamy notes of Baileys makes this a fantastic pairing. You will also need a few other key ingredients and your favourite toppings to finish off the decadent drink.

If you don’t have Tia Maria, Kahlua and Baileys are also often used together to create this adults-only drink. Other cocktails with Baileys and Kahlua include a B52, White Russian or a Toblerone cocktail

Tips for serving a mudslide recipe at home

There’s no need for extravagant equipment or fancy glassware when making this Baileys cocktail with vodka from the comfort of your home. All you’ll need is a simple cocktail shaker, a strainer and two serving glasses of your choice. Choose short glass tumblers with a wide opening like an Old Fashioned glass, mix it up with a coupe, or you can even go all out with a classic milkshake glass and paper straws.

Serve your vodka mudslide with plenty of chocolate sauce and garnish with whipped cream and grated chocolate for impact. For optimum freshness it’s best to make this Baileys and vodka cocktail as you go and at the time of serving, instead of creating a large batch at the start of the night or on your special occasion.
