The perfect diavola pizza for nights in

Meaning ‘devil’ in Italian, diavola or ‘pizza alla diavola’ is a type of pizza originating from Italy that gets its name from the hot and spicy toppings used. Our version features a ready-made pizza base, pizza sauce and fresh mozzarella, with fiery harissa paste, chilli and salami.

Ready in 20 minutes, it’s the perfect dish to enjoy on Friday nights on the couch or at pizza parties over the weekend feeding family and friends, especially for those who can handle the spice.

Try these alternative diavola ingredients for your spicy pizza

Spice is a key component when making this authentic Italian-style pizza at home. Crank up the heat with hot salami, pickled jalapeños, fresh chilli peppers, spicy sausage, or even a finishing drizzle of chilli oil. Whatever flavours you select, be sure to balance your pizza diavola ingredients with mozzarella, scamorza or parmesan cheese.

You can also choose to use your favourite toppings, such as swapping pizza sauce for barbecue sauce, replacing kalamata olives with green olives, or adding anchovies for lovers of this salty fish. If you like your pizza’s flavour profile to be a little sweet, add pineapple pieces.

As this version uses a ready-to-bake base, it’s simple to cook your pizza in a standard oven on a tray. If you’re opting to make homemade pizza dough from scratch, use a pizza oven for authentic results, or cook it on a pizza stone in the oven for an evenly cooked base with a beautiful puffed crust. Why not whip up a classic pizza sauce for a rustic touch, too?

The best way to slice and serve pizza diavola at home

When you’re ready to eat, transfer your pizza onto a large cutting board. Take a sharp knife and use a rocking motion to create clean cuts or use a pizza cutter. Allow the pizza to cool slightly to help prevent the cheese from sticking to the knife or cutter. You can even use kitchen shears to slice it up for a fast and easy option.

Serve your pizza with your favourite sides such as air fryer garlic bread and an easy Italian-style chopped salad. In keeping with the Italian theme, you can’t go wrong with a glass or two of an adults-only Aperol spritz or a classic Negroni
