Coles’ General Manager of Produce Craig Taylor is your guide to all things fruit and veg at Coles. This week, we update you on avocado supply, lettuce and in-season citrus!
Hi, I'm Craig from the fresh fruit and veg team here at Coles. And I'm here to be your guide to all things fruit and veg. So let's go. Over recent times, we've seen avocados really, really cheap. And that's because we've been getting beautiful avocados out of our Queensland farms. We're right at the tail end of that season and we're right in the middle of that season and the start of our New South Wales and Victoria season. And the weather's been a little bit cool, so you'll have to be a bit patient for a couple of weeks folks, as the price isn't as low as it's been. But I can rest assure you that there's plenty of volume coming down the line, so look out for some great specials in your store coming soon. Where is the iceberg lettuce? Now, that is a real issue, particularly in this store. I'm standing right now because there's no iceberg lettuce. The reason for that folks is we've had lots of flooding up in south east Queensland a few months ago, which caused planting gaps and we're in those gaps right now. We're working very closely with our growers to make sure we're supporting them through this really tough time. The good news is that we have product in the ground and I'm really confident that over the coming weeks you're going to start seeing the situation improve. Right. Can I juggle? The answer is no. And I wouldn't even try if I could on camera because I'd be dropping these gorgeous and delicious navel oranges. But why am I talking about citrus? Well, it's in season. And what does in season really mean? It means the product's at its best. Prices are fabulous. We love in season. 100% Aussie. 100% beautiful flavour. It is absolutely fabulous, particularly in winter and the southern states. Plenty of vitamin C. I know things have been a bit rough over the last few weeks with the availability challenges driven largely by the weather that we've had, but we're coming out the other side. Look for some great specials and great quality coming to your stores soon. Thanks for tuning in.
