Father's Day Q&A with Matt Preston

We asked award-winning food journalist and TV personality Matt Preston - the father of three - how he’ll be celebrating this Sunday. For Matt, saying “I love you” is the best gift.

How do you like to celebrate Father’s Day? Quietly, at home with my family.

Your favourite Father’s Day meal? Roast chicken with all the trimmings.

Your favourite Father’s Day drinks? A sidecar (2 parts brandy, 1 part lemon juice, 1 part triple sec liqueur, a couple of drops of bitters, shaken over ice), or a nice bottle of rich Australian chardonnay.

Has there been a special moment on Father’s Day over the years that has been particularly heartwarming or memorable? When the kids were young, breakfast and a cup of tea in bed were always pretty special, but those pictures of “my dad” from kinder are still the most memorable – and often the most heart-warming and funniest.

Tips for the kids on how to make the day special? Anything you do will make the day special. A hug and saying “I love you” is undoubtedly the best present, anyway.

Your best present ever… and your worst? I don’t think there is such a thing as a “worst present” from your children.

Is the way to a dad’s heart really through his stomach? It’s one of a number of ways to show your Dad that you love him. They are all good and always appreciated.
