Our Home Insurance can cover your private residential buildings, your contents or both depending on what policy type you choose. 

When you insure your contents with Coles Insurance you can choose to add on optional Personal Effects cover to protect you against loss or damage to items outside your home.

Unspecified Personal Effects cover provides Australia-wide cover for a range of portable items, both inside and outside your home (also in New Zealand and elsewhere in the world for up to 90 days). These items are not individually specified in your policy documentation.

Specified Personal Effects cover provides Australia-wide cover for individual items from a range of categories, both inside your home and outside your home (also in New Zealand and elsewhere in the world for up to 90 days) up to the amount specified by you and shown on the Certificate of Insurance.

Coles Home Insurance provides cover for ten insured events; these include fire, theft, vandalism, earthquakes or tsunami, impact damage, explosions, breakage of glass and escape of liquid. As well as damage due to weather events including lightning, storms and rainwater. 

For extra protection you can take out optional Flood cover. The addition of Flood cover to a policy is subject to our underwriting criteria.

Home Building Insurance covers loss or damage to your home which you own and use for domestic or residential purposes. It covers your home and other structural improvements like an in-ground swimming pool, sheds, decks and fences. It also includes internal fittings such as kitchen cupboards and floor tiles along with fixed appliances which are permanently connected to the gas or electricity systems such as room heaters, air conditioners and stoves.

Home Contents items include furniture and furnishings, carpets, internal blinds and curtains, household electrical appliances like TVs, kitchenware and tableware, clothing, sporting equipment, musical instruments and personal items.

There are a number of factors you can consider that may help reduce your premium:

• You can choose to increase your excess. However, this means in the event of a claim you'll need to pay a higher excess.     
• Reviewing your cover to ensure it suits your current needs, including any optional extras.
• Choosing to pay your premium annually instead of monthly or fortnightly.
